Do these 3 things BEFORE you start your freelance business

Fun Fact: There are over 73 million freelancers in the U.S.

This week on the Guidebook, I interviewed my badass friend, Ash. If you missed it, you can listen to it on your fave podcast platform or right here.

My fave part of our interview was Ash’s three tips for someone who wants to become a freelancer. So let’s talk about ‘em!

Find role models.

Find people you can look up to, who you can ask questions, or who can mentor you as early as possible. Follow a freelancer on Instagram or LinkedIn. Join a freelance group on Facebook or a private community. Ask your friends and family if they know a freelancer.

Start networking right away.

Even before you actually start your business, start networking. LinkedIn is a great tool for this! If you want to look 100% professional, try out my LinkedIn templates.

Seek radically candid folks.

Freelancing isn’t a cakewalk. Look for the people who admit they’ve fucked up. Find the ones who share the struggles they’ve faced with freelancing. Those are the best people to ask for advice because you know they’ll be real with you.

Try This

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, or you have trouble with executive functioning, or need help breaking down your tasks into bite-sized chunks – have I got the tool for you.

This isn’t sponsored… I saw this on TikTok and, of course, had to try it. It’s been so helpful for everything from writing an e-book to cleaning my kitchen.

That’s all for today, freelancers! I’m really curious about how many of you have found a mentor or community in the freelance world.
