How I Onboard Writing Clients
Freelance Friday
Today we’re talking about Onboarding.
Onbaording: the action or process of familiarizing a new client with one's services.
Your client journey is important, no matter what service or product you offer. From the first point of contact to the first deliverable.
Deliverable: a tangible or intangible good or service produced as a result of a project.
So let’s dive in. I’m revealing my simple onboarding process today! Plus, I’m sharing a discount code to my favorite CRMs in The Juicy Stuff.
My 6-step onboarding process
This is how I personally onboard all of my clients. Every freelancer does it differently! So don’t feel compelled to just copy my process.
When I started, I had a really hard time figuring out how to nail this down. Seeing what other freelancers did really helped me form my own process!
Try This
This week, I’m challenging you to create your own onboarding process. If you don’t already have one, you should start creating one ASAP – it’ll make your life easier!
Onboarding processes are not one-size-fits-all. They’re also not static; they should grow with your business. Don’t be afraid to make changes later!
Consider these aspects of your clients’ journey to create your own onboarding process:
What’s the first point(s) of contact?
How will you schedule meetings?
Will you be using a CRM?
What do you need from the client to do your job?
What can you turn into a template to make the process faster?
Contracts
Proposals (Pricing, services, upsells, & packages)
Onbaording emails
Dashboards
Payment Reminder Emails
Invoices + Payment Plans
Sales call procedures
Quesionnaires to gather information
What can you automate?
